The Wide World of Carpentry

The word Carpenter has a multitude of meanings. From the guys who build houses to the people who create movie sets. The Carpentry career can take you from a rural Maine home site to the studios of Hollywood. From building a bridge form on the side of a Highway to repairing wood columns on the White house. You can choose where and what kind of work you want to do. Just as in any career you may have to work on your resume to get that dreaing job. But as with anything persistence and hard work always get rewarded in the long run.

If woodworking is a thing you are interested in, carpentry is a very rewarding career. Anyone can start in any position and find room for advancement. Don't be discouraged if the first position is sweeping the floor. That is exactly where I started and learned some off my most important lessons. The possessor of an open mind, and patience, will find their self moving up in the world and earning more very quickly. If you pick up every skill you can wrap your head around study diligently and work hard, most people will find them selves making $30-$50,000 a year with in 10-15 years of starting in the field.

It is truly sad that in today's world most customers value speed more than quality. With that said I would hope that if you possess the skills to do better that the appropriate customers are sought. The gift of a great carpenter is sometimes wasted on production work that will need to be replaced within a few short years due to poor workmanship and ever poorer products. All in the pursuit of the quick buck. Not only does this former mentality cost all of us dearly. But is not the path to a long and prosperous relationship with your clients.

In closing, Work hard it won't kill you, and do the best job you can do, it will lead to a healthier life, and relationship with the world.
